Romer Worthy was born into lies on both sides: his mother, leader of the delusional Watcher cult, who waits endlessly for the appearance of the Mother Lady prophet; and his father, head of the Edenist Church, who conceals truths about the world in order to maintain his power.

 

So when reports of mysterious anomalies called Quirks begin to show up in Eden, Romer, a reluctant Adam who only joins his father's church because there are no better options, is skeptical. But when the Quirks become a religious weapon in the hands of an emerging leader, the Watchers are blamed for everything that's going wrong in their world, and Romer's young son Hawk, the heir to the Watcher legacy, is threatened with death.

 

In exchange for Hawk's safety, Romer agrees to hunt down and destroy the sacred text of the Watchers, a fabled Relic that's been hidden since the beginning of time. But what Romer finds shocks him to his core: a story about the Blind Ones that could change Eden forever. Romer has to choose between destroying the truth in order to save his son, or trusting a legend that he's spent his entire life denying — a legend that could save not only his son, but the entire world.
